It’s been unbearably hot here in Southern California so we’ve been eating light and drinking lots of refreshing treats!
Today we had doogh! If you font know what doogh is it’s a good-for-your tummy refreshing drink from the Middle East. My Persian friend taught me how to make it and it’s been a favorite since!
All you need is to scoop some ice into a glass, throw a couple dollops of plain white yogurt, a pinch of sea salt and top off with seltzer water and a sprig of mint! Sounds weird I know but it’s so delicious and we all know how great and refreshing mint is for your tummy as well as live yogurt!

Nice days mean preparing our garden for fall and harvesting vegetables to can and pickle. All this time outdoors getting chased by feathery hens and breathing in pollen and dust never fails to give me a summer cold. Thankfully it never lasts more than two days thanks to my immunity warming tea!
Slice about a teaspoon of fresh ginger into a mug, add the juice of 1 lemon, a pinch of hibiscus flowers, a 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, honey to taste and a black teabag. Pour boiling water over this and let steep until it’s still hot but comfortable enough for you to drink. Your nose will be running but take this before bedtime and I guarantee you you’ll feel better quickly!
I also made good old fashioned onion cough syrup to bottle and keep for the cooler months.

I will be restocking my home apothecary with elderberry syrup soon, and I promise to share my recipe with you!
I hope you are all staying safe and healthy!

Love elderberry! Such a good supplement to take that a lot of people don’t know about!

Oh I know and it tastes so good too!

Well, you sure 'doogh' make it seem sexy!!! Lots of cultures seem to have at least one fermented drink (although I think Australians just have beer) for health. I'm sure this is delicious! I know what you mean about hens - they have been chasing me for food every time I go out into the garden! Curated by @riverflows xx

Awww thank you! And yes hens seem to be very entitled when it comes to getting what they want! 🥰
