Here's something I used to think a lot about: Tiny homes!
These are very small, space efficient, inexpensive houses which have many of the necessities of a standard home, with much more of the 'homieness.' They use clever ways of saving space, such as having shelving under stairs, loft beds with entire bathrooms under them, and fold-out tables and furniture.

These homes are absolutely beautiful, many being quite modern with a rustic touch, using natural wood, rope, exposed metal frames, and the like in their designs. Many of these homes, given their size, are quite portable as well! Some clever solutions for moving these homes around are keeping them on a trailer, and hooking it up to a truck when ready to move, easy loading onto a trailer, or, actually building the home inside a large vehicle, like an old bus! For those of us looking to save some money and don't mind living in close quarters with their partner (or themselves for that matter,) this definitely seems like a great option.
