Yes I have a pet turkey! He is a bourbon red and a little over a year old and he is the goofiest, you've heard the old saying "Not enough sense to get out of the rain", that's Tinker. For some reason he loves standing in the rain and will walk back and forth letting the rain drops pelt him continuously.
Tinker is also a tattletale turkey. I have a black lab puppy who's kennel is next to Tinker's, RJNo (his name is actually RJ for Roscoe Jr. he thinks it's RJNo because that's what he's called the most, but that's another story) got out of the kennel and Tinker went wild gobbling so I went to see what was wrong and RJ was having a good time running around. I got RJ back in his kennel and Tinker calmed down and was fine. Guess he thought that if he wasn't allowed out then no body was!
Right now he doesn't have a girlfriend, wife or mate but I'm hoping to have him a couple soon and pass that goofy gene on. Turkey's wouldn't be the first choice of a pet but if you think about it they make excellent watch turkeys, if Tinker hadn't started gobbling so loud and so long RJ could have been gone and 40 acres is a lot to search for a puppy. If raised from very young around people they can be loving, granted you won't be snuggling up with them and letting them sleep on your bed. Worst case scenario there's always Thanksgiving dinner, NOT!!
