We need each other

I would start by telling a story of a professor who needed to cross a river to supervise how his sugarcane business is thriving.
In his quest to cross the river, he needed the help of a ferryman in the deep hinterlands of Akuapem. As he approached the uneducated ferryman, he spoke harshly to him saying, “Hey !!! take me on your boat across the river” As they were going, this professor started lambasting the villagers “illiterate folks who always depend on others for help. All you know is begging.” Unfortunately for him, this ferryman had some basic education. Although he could not understand all that the professor said, he was able to decode what the professor meant but he remained silent. In the middle of their journey, the ferryman asked him Professor;

  • Do you know swimmingnology?
  • Do you know paddlogy?

The professor was confused, for all his lifetime as a professor he has never come across such terminologies. As he tried to make sense out of what the ferryman said, Prof. I know those of you in the city live a better life than those of us in the village. Let me ask you right now if the canoe should capsize can you swim? The frustrated prof said no. The ferryman went on to remind him “You gain your wealth from our fertile farmlands which cannot be found in the city. Our village provides you with farmhands, we work wholeheartedly and you take us as fools? Have thieves ever broken into your farm, he said No, the ferryman further told him that right now he could end his life in the middle of the river and that will be enough to end your dreams and shutter your family.
Distressed as the professor was, he began to feel that he has missed it all that while. He begged him not to throw him over, the ferryman assured him that he will reach safely but he should never regard them as useless entities.
The professor stood speechless as the ferryman hurried him onshore. This was enough lesson for him on that fateful Friday afternoon.

MORAL LESSON IN THIS STORY

  • Never use one person’s actions to infer for two people.
  • We need each other. There is no human in this world that does not depend on anyone or anything.

God designed our world such that there is a relationship between us all. The doctor needs the help of the nurse in the OR, we all depend on farmers for their farm produce. The least contribution of anyone is very important to keep our world in a balance. Have you ever wondered why God created some naughty insects which seem to be a nuisance to us? Plants depend on us for Carbon dioxide as much as we depend on them for Oxygen.

The piano is made up of black and white keys that are played in symphony. In this world not all of us can be brilliant in school, not all of us could be leaders. This might sound startling but wait a second if all of us were leading who will follow? There will be diversion and chaos everywhere. The least in the classroom will be helpful one day to us at the point where we least expected them. The fact that he is not good does not mean he is a dumb.

Respect every one; give them attention when they need you with the impression that they deserve it at least as humans. Call for help in times of need. Do not mistreat anyone because you think they are inferior. Trust me there is something about that person you wish you had.
Let’s learn from each other. We were not made as perfect beings. We need each other.

Never look down on anyone until you intend to raise them up.
Correct but do not criticize.

Kirk Franklin said in his song I need you to survive:

“I need you
You need me
We’re all part of God’s body
Stand with me agree with me
We’re all part of God’s body………..”
