So yesterday my wife and I got possession of our new house and tomorrow we lose possession on my wife's old house. So today I tricked @coriolanus into emptying everything out of the old house. All I have to say is my wife owns a lot of stuff.
The plan was to quickly empty out what was left in the house and swing by our storage unit and and fill up any extra space left in the truck. Since we just had to move the deepfreeze and everything my wife was storing in her basement from before we met, it seemed like a quick and easy task. We barely managed to get everything left in the house into the massive moving truck. I think my wife was even impressed by how much stuff she owns. Here I am with a bunch of clothes and a computer while she has enough furniture to fill up multiple houses. Well the good news is we bought a big house and should be able to use all of that extra furniture.
It was a very long day and I couldn't have done it all without the help of fellow steemian @coriolanus. I'm glad that's over and hopefully once we are all set up in the new house I never have to move again!
Best Advice When Moving in Town:
(1) Start Going through all your stuff months in advance.
(2) Make ruthless decisions on what you really need to keep.
(3) This is the best time to declutter.
(4) Get rid of old clothes, books, magazines, etc.
(5) Grind papers that contain personal information.
(6) Schedule a Salvation Army pick up.
If Moving Across Country:
(1) Sell all your Large Heavy & Bulky Items.
(2) Post items on CraigsList early; Cut the price every renewal until sold.
(3) If a Buyer is walking away, throw in extra items to seal a deal...
(4) Tools are especially heavy, so get rid of as many as you can (you can always buy more later when you need them).
*The goal is to lighten the load while traveling; and bank as much extra cash from selling things...You'll save money on large moving trucks, fuel, and time.
Plus, It's just easier to buy fresh new things once you get situated in your new space.
We didn't get much decluttering done but did manage to donate a bunch of items to charities.
