RE: You Want To Homestead! Part Three!

Good information and advice that you are sharing here. The past 2 rural homes that I've had both had fiber 30/5 access which was a very welcome surprise. It would have been free for us as well to have it run if it hadn't been there. I think it is due to some sort of government rural subsidy program which enables smaller communication co-ops to fill in areas that aren't reached by the bigger name providers. When we lived in Texas the cable company down there said that they could run the line the quarter mile from the road to our rental but only if we payed 10,000.00 upfront. Obviously a pretty big difference in how a big conglomerate handles new customers and how some of these newer companies go about getting to their customers. Are you guys planning to go well and septic?

Sort:

This phone company here we had trouble with as the person in charge was a pain in the butt. I called and talked to the owner and he got it squared away real quick. They ran fiber 3.5 miles for us so we would have better internet. We have had the well in for about a year and before that we hauled water. That is not fun btw. LOL. We have one septic in and a variance for three more but I think we will do composting toilets as we have been experimenting with composting now and like it much better. Much cheaper alternative. We have a place close we can get all the cypress shaving we want for $10.00.
