A tunnel through the rocks

in #life6 years ago

A little later into our trek, and around 2500 meters above sea level, we had arrived at a tunnel cut into the rock that was only finished in 1930.

This tunnel would have provided a trading route to transport all kinds of goods between the indigenous people. Our guide told us that meat and cattle would regularly pass from one side of the mountain to the other. This was also the only route to get to a close by city called Calama.
