I'm staying in one of the many wildlife conservancies that border the Maasai Mara national reserve in Kenya. For the next couple weeks I'm going to try and post each evening from The Naboisho Conservancy.

What a day we had yesterday! We got up before six am and headed out on another bush drive. We saw these 2 lionesses by the water staying really still. We continued our drive and looped back around just before breakfast, probably around 2 hours later.

The lionesses were in exactly the sample place but they'd made a kill on a warthog. We were really close - probably no more than a few metres away whilst they fed. The lions can always sense humans, but as we were in a vehicle we were relatively safe.

Warthogs are quite powerful animals but they are the main prey for the lions in this conservancy. We watched them feed on the Warthog for hours, which was quite incredible.

The lions seemed to be fine with us in the vehicle as they fed and being so close is one of the reasons the Maasai Mara is so popular for tourists. If we stepped outside the vehicle the lions would almost definitely run away - this is a good thing - you want lions to be afraid of humans otherwise all sorts of conflicts can arise.

The lions have killer instincts and if you get too close when they are on a kill their dominant protective instincts would kick in and they’d ward you off. If you were to run away they’d consider you food and would probably attack.

Following you -- I'm about to embark on a worldwide travel journey myself. I didn't know about lions being afraid of humans. Definitely good to know.... just don't run from them and if you have a car, stay in it. Those are useful tips.

Great job of storytelling with both the images and the words. Had to give you a follow.

Dude, you are living life! I am shocked and scared just by looking at the photos. Have to be very brave to get close to them, even through the zoom on camera! Keep enjoying my man...

Wonderful Post @dannystravels .....blessings

Masai Mara is an amazing place, especially during the migration season. I've been there atleast thrice but stayed at Mara Serena and Sarova Mara. Nice post btw and enjoy 👍

Amazing photos from maasai mara and what a perfect hunt by the lionesses. Those lionesses have some strong jaws and paws, they must have been really hungry :)

Nice to see how a solid photo and travel post can still do well here.

Hi @dannystravels, been missing these posts and I am glad to be back and watch your travels unfold. Such a powerful yet graceful animal, she is a hunting machine.
And the landscape is mesmerizing.

I would love to know what goes through your mind during an ambush?
That silence before she strikes, and then the craziness when the herd moves while she fans them out to pounce on her target... it's a rush to watch hey?

Wow, that must have been fascinating to see that! Followed you ;)
How far from the lions were you? :D

Thanks for the share @dannystravels. Hey we have almost the same username. I want to venture out to Africa one of these days. Upvoted and Followed.
