Toucans In Costa Rica

It's a short post from me today but happy to have spotted a very special chestnut-mandibled toucan from the deck of our property.

You may remember I posted about Toucans before when I was in Bonito, but I've never seen this species before. These birds dominate the area because they are quite aggressive - scaring away any other birds.

Toucans pick off fruit from nearby trees, throwing fruit into the air and catching them in their mouth.


Their massive beaks make it awkward to eat!

They are such majestic birds. Looking at them takes me back to the times when dinosaurs walked On this earth.
