New job.

for the past few months i have been working with recovering addicts as a chemical dependency counselor assistant. coming from a family who has had to struggle with the addiction of a loved one. i felt that my insight and personal experiences could help those who are wishing to overcome drug addiction. i went into this job expecting the worst. what i found are people who made a mistake in life and just got caught up in it. not evil people but a group of guys trying to reassemble the life that they once had before drug addiction. most have a criminal background some have sought help on their own. while others have been court ordered into treatment. i work at what is called a transitional facility. the clients here are on the last leg of their journey back to the real world. they have proven themselves by going through the treatment faze where every aspect of their daily lives is monitored and regulated.
here the clients have more freedom. some have jobs while others look for work. a few feel overwhelmed after they have come to the realization of the pain and suffering they caused friends and family. these clients need a softer but firm touch to help them through.
not everyone will make it, i know this. drug users are very likely to use again even after they have completed a treatment program. however there are those who do make it and to be a part of that makes it worth it.
