Sentiment Flip!

in #life7 years ago

The sentiment for college has continued to flip.

No longer is college regarded in the standards it once was.

Of course, you will run into plenty of people who still take college super seriously..

These people are forcing their kids into debt.

They're the ones who run rampant with the false proclimations touted by schools...

Schools, remember, are just businesses.

These colleges are in the business of handing out pieces of paper in exchange for a ton of money.

Said piece of paper will go a long way in helping you land some corporate nosey job but it won't go too far in making you a better human!

Upgrade your dome rather than hitting the college curriculum!

Hey, @determine.

I'm looking forward to the day when what you know and how well you know it can outshine, or at least mean as much, as who you know. I don't think we'll ever get away from networking, but it would be nice if the caliber of knowledge and capacity were the main concern rather than the bank accounts of wealthy donors.

I've read numerous times how businesses, particularly tech companies, end up hiring more off aptitude rather than college degrees, and they end up training their employees in proprietary processes and software. I would say that in such cases spending time at college learning theory and such would be less valuable than just learning some programming skills and doing.

Technical schools that actually prepare someone for work, which may also include apprenticeships where you're paid while learning on the job, or what they might also called the trades, are constantly looking for people to work. They pay well, and don't often cost nearly as much in time or money. So much now can be learned on the internet, or through some kind of mentoring. There really isn't any practical need for college, that I can think of, beyond sciences, health fields, and others, where more college is needed. Those who require it or still take it seriously are, purposefully or not, just perpetuating a practice that is outliving its practical usefulness in too many cases.
