Everything is meant to break and get replaced (planned obsolescence), but we're the ones paying the "environmental fee" on each one.
Almost everything we buy has some kind of environmental fee added on top! Not only is waste and inefficiency mandated, we're blamed and fined for it.
Razors, for example. A lot of people need to shave some part of their bodies at least now and then, so almost everyone is a buyer of razors. Disposables used to be a tiny fraction of the market. Now, they're the vast majority of the razor market. And they charge an enviro fee on each package!
Food, even worse. Normally I like to buy in large amounts, for example 2 liters. But the store just doesn't carry the 2L size. In fact, they're always out of the 1L size, forcing most customers to buy the 500mL size. So you end up with a cart full of little cans, bottles, and containers, which is really inconvenient and expensive. And then you pay a recycling deposit on them all, plus non-refundable recycling fees. Because "we have to save the environment!"
