I don’t know where this stigma of taxes being difficult came from. Most of it is taking the data from the tax form and plugging it in right to the software. In my opinion all these tax services like H&R Block try to scare people with all sorts of propaganda. You have them do you taxes, and they get a slice of your return. Now don’t get me wrong. Taxes can get complicated quickly if you own a business or if you are a day trader. For most people that receive a W-2 tax form it is basically data entry.

Some software like TurboTax will ask you a series of question an make it very simple to follow. Though TurboTax starts out free depending on what else you did in the tax year they many charge you tiered amounts. For example, I had some investment dividends and I would have to pay $20 to file. The service I have used the past few years has been Credit Karma. It is always free to file. You can opt for an interview style to fill forms or you can fill in the information yourself.
Maybe this year you can conquer your fear of taxes and attempt taxes yourself. Before you start throwing money around for someone else to input your information.
