STUDY TIME!!! HELP NEEDED!!! (topic: Early American Literature)

in #life6 years ago

Today is one of those days when you really have to sit down, learn, learn learn and after that do some reading, writing and learn a bit more... My exams are coming closer than the white walkers to the North (game of thrones) :)

So the topics that I have to read and learn about today are:

1. Edgar Allan Poe, life & work; Poe’s theoretical views on literature

2. Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories: style, themes, symbols (provide examples of stories other than “The Black Cat” and “The Fall of the House of Usher”)

3. Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories: style, themes, symbols; “The Black Cat” and “The Fall of the House of Usher”

4. Edgar Allan Poe’s influence on French symbolism; Interpretation of Poe’s poetry (“The Raven”—the first and last stanza by heart, “Annabel Lee”—the first and last stanza by heart)

5. Emily Dickinson, life & work; Interpretation of Dickinson’s poetry

6. Nathaniel Hawthorne, life & work; Melville and Hawthorne

7. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, the plot and characters

8. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, the context and symbolism

....

Poe is one of my favorite authors and it will be easy to go through topics that are connected with his life and work, while I know little about Emily Dickinson, so if anybody has any information about her life, please write in comment. Nathaniel Hawthorne is really great author, yet I did not like his work The Scarlet Letter, since it is too descriptive in my opinion. If you are aware of any symbolism in his Scarlet Letter, do comment please. It would really help :)
