The concept of settling down is unreasonable to me because unless you are dead, you don't stop trying to reach greater heights in your life. And if you are not trying to do that you might as well be dead.
Yesterday, my friend sent the following whatsapp forward to me when we were meeting over some dinner. We've been friends for over 23 years now and the message echoed my thoughts as we discussed our achievements and failures over these years amongst other things.
Settle Down?
The whole concept of 'settling down' is misleading. We think we will settle down after finishing our studies (seriously?) maybe after marriage (nope), then we think we might settle down after being successful (doesn't happen), certainly after having kids(do we?), ok after the kids grow up, (absolutely not).
Life is not meant to settle down, life is meant to struggle, to explore, to wander. to love, to lose, to learn, to unlearn, to fail, to rebel, to live.
Even our ashes don‘t settle, it flies away in all directions."
I don't know who wrote these aforementioned lines but it resonated with my thoughts today.
The last decade has been extremely busy and looking back at my 20s I have accomplished most of the goals I set out for myself. Certainly not all of them but many of them indeed and well ahead of the time I gave myself to do it.
But lately listening to some of my friends and their family pressures on them to "settle down" I feel like our society in India is all about 'settling down' when this concept is simply a myth in reality!
But to each his own I guess. :)

Amen! I couldn't agree more. The thought of settling down is something that actually scares me. I have thought about this subject a lot and I also think it is why a lot of people who retire often become depressed and unhealthy, it's because they lose purpose and meaning. I think our mindset needs to continually lean towards learning and constantly growing, we are never too old to learn and its never too late to start something new

:-D I always thought like you, but came to the point where I think: settling down is totally fine, when you build your own nice refugium. The opportunity to travel is still there :-)
Well said sir but in India still there are some parents who don't allow their children to choose carrier of their interests and I m one among them

The other word we use in place of settlement is compromise. People in India are always ready for this and the local words is चल जाने दे जो होना था वो हुवा. However i believe in struggle.
The rat race is always on. Glad you shared that message because I find it holds true as well. The more I try to settle down the more I realize life is passing me by and I can keep up or get left behind.
This is true with 2 kids as well as I want them to realize that with hard work and not settling allows you to achieve almost anything you put your mind to.
Struggle never ends. In a sense we and our entire social structure is constructed upon a big lie. We are expected to do all sort of stuffs that those around us do. If we think more deeply we can find that we are not more than mere one among thousands of animal species living on planet earth.
Maybe settling down means ending the life?
I thought you are promoting One Plus when I saw the picture. Lol!
Nice blog. Completely agree with this line- “Never Settle”. I also like to explore and try new things even when I am satisfied with the things I have.

Why to settle when wind is by your side. 👌 Keep moving till you have the zeal and passion to make way for anything possible. Settling down is like when we have accomplished...but there is so much to explore in life....so move on 😉
