The eyes of the sphinx opened, and a voice called out to her.
"What deems you worthy?"
She stood for an eternity, carefully choosing her response.
"Perhaps I am worthy because of my many selfless deeds. Perhaps my wisdom has taught me how to pass any test... or perhaps I am not at all worthy... or perhaps none of this matters, only whether or not YOU see my worth. In any case, I am destined to enter this place, and regardless of my worth you will let me in, for no one may go against the three sisters."
Upon hearing her answer the sphinx slowly opened the gates, and she proceeded. As she passed the great beast and entered the temple, all became total darkness. Yet onward she pressed. Up ahead was a small flame, no larger than that of a candle. As she approached, the flame grew and began to illuminate her surroundings. The altar where the flame burned was pure silver, adorned with gold and jewels. Her eyes caressed the tribute, and as she lifted them to see the face of the unknown deity...
