Space Bar Afar And CB McGee

While ice skating the other day, my friends and I got on the topic of our parents and their texting proclivities. It was a round table discussion full of giggles and general incredulity, and in the name of historical cultural preservation and other bull fecal matter stained generalizations, I have decided to document and archive the digital communicative behavior of our elder parents all for the sake of historical posterity. And stuff.

I suppose this mishmash of languages dipped in a grammatical cocktail of phonetics and Morse code is all good and well for those that love a good bit of deciphering in their communication interplay. Of course, the problem with a lack of textual spacing is the tendency to get out of breath whilst mumbling the line to oneself, not to mention the mental stress of the possibility of mistranslating the intended dialogue. Talk about a stressful way to communicate.
My friend's phone was filled with text after text of non spaced, almost indecipherable lines of words. I might have giggled more than a bit at the spectacle, but I could also tell that my friend was touched that her 70 plus year old father would even attempt to dive into the texting realm.
My dad is about twenty years younger and a whole lot more theatrical. His entry in the Elder Text Codex is under CB McGee. As most of my faithful readers know, my dad Ron is a logger. Part of his skill set in life is the ability to yammer without ceasing in an almost Guinness World Records sort of way. This type of expression has often been conducted over CB radios throughout logging jobs for the past 40 years. So, it was only natural that my dad approached texting much the same way he carried out a CB conversation. I mean, to be fair both means of conversation are designed to be brief and full of acronyms, abbreviation, and occupational slang. Here's an example of one my my dad's texts to me:

The first time I received one of his missives I had a mild flashback to my small form bouncing up and down on a protruding spring seat of an old Chevy crewbus whilst listening to my dad and some logging Siderod bicker about something that involved a rigging rat and timber units. I suppose dad's brand of texting wins some nostalgia points.

It is in the vein of fond remembrance that I will leave you all tonight, full of anticipation regarding further entries into the Elder Texts Codex. In fact, if any of you have a funny little anecdote about how someone you know sends text messages in a quirky way, please share it! I promise to be good naturedly amused:o)

The level of awesomeness that you achieved with that response is Himalayan in elevation!😆
Well there is a reason for that..... I am elderly! 🐓🐓
Bahaha! I am thankful not to have had the no space one happen to me! It would drive me nuts.
I think the worst offensive one is when people use the elipses in weird places like “happy birthday...”. Are you really droning off or? I’m so lost!
Or can we talk about the people who capitalize every word? Why Did They Even Start Doing That? It Seems Like A Lot Of Work Pressing The Shift Key Every Time On A Cell Phone!
Lol! Me too!
I totally giggled over the ellipse thing, perhaps it adds drama? Or maybe a nap happened? Ha ha!
And the effort needed in the capitalization texting scheme is far beyond my motivational level. Plus, it would drive me crazy too.
Thanks for the reply, I'm still chuckling!
A nap! Hahahhaha
Ha, this reminds me of my dad texting me. I have never received just one text from my father. It's always one long text that has a ton of non sensical errors in it. Then for the next 10 minutes I get 5 to 10 more texts each one correcting one word from the original text as he re-read it and saw the errors. It's maddening.
Oh my. The correcting of the errors woukd drive me bananas. Actually, that might be the perfect form of textual torture, lol!!!
Hang in there! 😆
Thanks for the chuckle! So good meeting you tonight!
It was so great to meet you too! I meant to tell you that sooner, but haven't sat down since Tuesday, lol!
So glad you got to come to the Meetup, definitely loooking forward to getting to chat with you more in the future😊
I think my own texts qualify as Elder Texts, because I am getting on towards "elder." I despise abbreviations. And I apparently have fat thumbs. So I end up sending some really odd-looking words if I don't take the time to read it over first.
As a recipient of your texts, I have to say that I disagree with your assessment! I have often wished that more texts I receive were constructed like yours, they are always magnificent😊😊😊
You are, as ever, very gracious!!
Great writing content great thoughts Thanks for sharing Keep it up
God bless you
