Life, especially life within the context of modern society, teases us with two elusive destinations. On one side of things, we have a path towards what we need in order to live a comfortable life. While safety and security may be an illusion, one can conjure a most convincing illusion should they set their will upon on it. On the other side of the spectrum, we can head towards what we want, in spite of what we believe or are led to believe we need. Perhaps in this case it is a great love, knowledge, or mastery of a certain skill.
Both the journey towards what we believe we need, and the journey towards what we have convinced ourselves we want, require courage, patience and perseverance. To head in either direction will require at times for us to step outside of our comfort zones and to take risks. But it is for this reason that either path rewards us with growth - growth that can serve to aid us should we ever decide to switch our destination and head for the opposite goal.
Where we do not want to be, and where unfortunately too many of us are, is stuck in the middle, chasing after neither what we want nor what we need. The human being is a highly adaptable creature, and thus making a habit out of denying ourselves progress can all too quickly lead to a form of paralysis. The longer we lack the will or the courage to pursuit what we want or what we need, the more difficult it becomes to do so.
So do not get stuck in the middle, the only place in life that provides one with no growth. Stay there only long enough to decide upon which direction you would like to head in your life, and then be bold, be brave, and advance your way towards it.
