How much land each of us would get if it was distributed equally?

Don't you think that it is strange that each of us has to pay for a piece of land to live on. We think that we are we are free humans, but that is not totally true. OK, I know that the facilities provided to us in modern life require labor, and I am not complaining about paying for them. What I am actually complaining about is that we even have to pay for a piece of land to live on.

Now you might argue that you need to buy land, because your country is protected by external threats by the government and armed forces and such. However, I am imagining a world where there would be perfect harmony and humans will no more be enemies of each other. Moreover, we would have enough technology to build homes wherever and whenever we want (through 3D printing for example), have decentralized power (like Solar panels) and such. Basically, I am imagining a post-scarcity economy where everything would be in abundance. But, would the land to live on be abundant too?

To answer that question, let us see how much is the human poulation now, and how much is the inhabitable land on earth. According to worldometer, the human population is 7.6 billion right now. Moreover, according to this site, the total inhabitable land (excluding deserts and mountains) on earth is 24,642,757 square miles or 63824 billion m2. This means that each human would get 8326 m2 of land, if it was distributed equally. Now if you were given land in the form of a square, it would be almost 91 m long and wide, which is quite big, isn't it? Even if we allocate half of Earth's inhabitable land for things like forests, roads and agricultural land etc, you'll still get a land which is 45.5 m long and wide.

I'll end this post with this beautiful quote from Mahatma Gandhi.

“The world has enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed.”

I hope there will again be dispute🙂because human needs are vast and diverse. Some people demand land-locked and some will demand land with seas like islands😀

That's interesting @hmushtaq. It's actually a lot, lot less than I thought it would be! Are you sure those figures are correct? 😁

I am quite sure. Basically, 33% of land is covered by deserts and 24% by mountains, which I am categorizing as uninhabitable.

I really am surprised then @hmushtaq that it's so little! 😁 Seems like we'd all still be living on top of one another!

Why do you think its little :)? Its almost 100 meters wide and 100 meters long, meaning that even for Usain Bolt, its gonna take almost 10 seconds to reach from one end to another, both ways.

Exactly. I was thinking along similar lines except I was thinking of two lengths of an olympic swimming pool. Great mind think alike. 😂

To me that seems really small relative to the size of the planet. I guess I just don't get how big 7 million is.

Nice post, but based on my contributive ideas, i'll contribute my own quota by saying that the fact still remains that development in countries is centered i.e, urban civilization is centered on a particular region in a vast land in the sense that the total number of developed land in the world and the desire of people to join civilization makes it impossible for the land due to every person on this earth to be centred or trusted on a particular entity( the government), which makes it impossible for land, being a free gift of nature to be equally distributed. Thank you!

Things could change though with decentralized technologies, meaning less dependance on governments and monopolisitc companies. Moreover, we could ultimately have a post scarcity economy where most things would be in abundance. And like I just showed, even if we distribute land equally among people, there would be more than enough land for each of us.

Really I also think there should be a world full of happiness, peace and calm. and this world is not enough so no need to hold land on this world where peace and calm is nowhere

You are absolutely right brother. Greed is killing us.
