Complacency is a killer. It is a way for life to lull you into situations where personal growth and development becomes impossible. As a species, we thrive in conflict and progress through systematic change.

Ask yourself if you feel uncomfortable when you think about a plan to develop yourself. How many times in life have you looked at the end result you would like, looked at the long road and have chosen not to pursue it. Why? More likely than not, it is because the road is bumpy and hard. It is out of our comfort zone.

As an employee, you need to dig into projects with ambiguity and complexity to get ahead. As a friend and partner, you need to have difficult conversations that are mentally challenging and uncomfortable. If we wish to progress in life, we need to become uncomfortable.

Some comforts that impede our growth include vices and creature comforts. Consider a comfy chair perched at the edge of a cliff. Our comforts can lull us into dangerous situations if we let them. Abandon your comfort and you will be amazed at how much you grow.
