Making new year resolutions is one thing, keeping them is an entirely different thing. Making resolutions is great, it makes you feel more motivated. You feel inspired to accomplish your set goals. It gives you some desire and renewed hope.

Well, the truth (sad really) is that many new year resolutions do not make it past the first or second months of the year. To be able to keep your new year resolutions, here are some tips you can follow.

  1. Set Intermediate goals

Some people set big goals like saving half of their salaries. The point here is why don't you set a small target, say saving 10% of your salary and see how it goes from there. This is achievable and more realistic than the half you had in mind. It is good to have resolutions and goals, but set yourself up for success while at it.

  1. Reward Yourself

A little reward for achieving your goals wouldn't be a bad idea. Take yourself to see a movie or buy something for yourself. This can be the extra motivation you need to accomplish your goal.

  1. Tools for success

If you plan on eating healthier, buy the proper cooking tools to accomplish that. Make sure you have the right tools to succeed in your set goals. If you plan on jogging in the mornings, make sure you have your running shoes and running outfits.
Whatever goal you set, make sure you have the tools to enable you accomplish them.

  1. Schedule

It doesn't matter if you are trying to exercise more or eat better, you will need to make time to accomplish your goals. The first step to success is to create a scheduler for your goals. Buy a great planner and carve out time for what you need to do.

If you are trying to eat healthy or cook at home more, schedule time on Sunday to plan your meals and shopping, so when you get home exhausted during the week all you will have to do is cook and not play the "What are we going to eat"? game.
Be realistic about your time though and don't try to do too much all at once but commit 100% to what you schedule.

  1. Get an app

Paper planners are great but apps are even better. You know how powerful and useful technology can be. Find an app on your phone to keep you engaged and motivated. If you want to cook more use an app to help you in shopping. If your resolution is to run or exercise, find a app to track your workouts.
