DEPRESSION: Cause and How to Overcome

Depression comes with many definition and people commonly used it as a term for sadness. I am Psychology graduate and probably one of the people who is concerned of the rising percentage of suicide these days. Ignorance is one of the many things that people do not give time to dwell about when it comes to depression.

First of all, let us define DEPRESSION psychologically

  • loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities. Impaired function in social, occupational, educational. It can vary from mild to severe and fortunately it is treatable.

Guys depression is not just about plain sadness, it is a serious case that can lead to suicide. I am encouraging everyone to dwell more onto this because if you know someone who needs your attention, then at least find ways before anything became regrets and. full of "too late".

There is no single known cause of depression. Rather, it likely results from a combination of genetic, biochemical, environmental, and psychological factors. Trauma, loss of a loved one, a difficult relationship, or any stressful situation that overwhelms the ability to cope may trigger a depressive episode (psychologytoday).

  • Death of a loved one, loss of a job or ended a relationship are surely painful experiences for a human to endure. These are normal feelings for sadness or grief and these are often interpreted as depression but these feelings are not the same as depression. Grief are painful feelings and self-esteem are maintained but for depression, interests are decreased for more than 2 weeks , feelings of worthlessness and self-loathing are common.

Note: there is single cause for depression, sadness or grieve can be an outlet for depression, they can trigger depression anytime. Meaning to say, if we have a friend in need, then we have to spare some time to share some comfort.

For treatment, we have professional psychologists to attend to your concerns, attend psychotherapy and there are also medications. Self-coping is also present, as an individual think and reflect what makes you sad and happy, because those are the factors than can help you cope with the situation.

Everyone’s different and it's often a combination of factors that can contribute to developing depression. It's important to remember that you can't always identify the cause of depression or change difficult circumstances. The most important thing is to recognize the signs and symptoms and seek support.
