Bullheads were a real disease of our lakes, rivers and ponds. As a foreign invaders, they decimated the numbers of origin species. There was days when it was impossible to catch any other fish, using any bait, except this spiky little pest.

It was several years ago when bullhead population started to drop, at least in area where i am fishing. There is still bullheads around, but not even close like before. Some people says they didnt survived couple of harsh winters, and few really bad droughts.

Noone uses them as bait, but you can find them in the pike's bellies all the time.
Ive seen people farming them for food in small ponds. For food, and for backyard fishing of course. They dont need much of oxygen or space, but they want food, a lot of it.
Bullheads from such mini farms are not more than half of kilo weight, and they quite tasty fish. I ate them smoked a bit, and then put in oven with olive oil and garlic. Not bad at all, they are way better than carp or trout from fishing farms.
At some waters here, its illegal to catsh&release them. It was, actually, before they started disappearing.
I have them since 3 months, and i am seriously thinking to make nice small outdoor pond instead of aquarium.
