What Do You Think? - Should Movie Theaters Charge Babies as Adults to Deter People From Bringing Them?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

A colleague of mine made a comment to me earlier today stating that movie theaters should charge babies as adults to deter people from bring them to the movies. This off-comment actually had me take a step back and actually think about what my answer would be.

I think some would say that if you impose a fee on someone, and they pay it, they now see it as their right to use what they paid for. In this example, if parents brings in their babies because it was free and it starts crying, they don't really have any leg to stand on, and they're just jerks for remaining in the theater and allowing their child/children to cry. If a person pays the full price for a ticket for their baby, it's now OK that the baby is crying, because they paid for that right.

This leaves everyone with nothing to complain about, because all things equal, everyone is paying for their right to be there.

My opinion is; babies should still be free, however, if your baby cries, you are obligated to leave the theater until the crying stops. If you remain in your chair with a crying baby long enough for security to come, you should be escorted out.

What do you think??

I think they should just bar them from theaters altogether and have special shows reserved for parents with babies and small children. The theater industry is going to die if they don't cater to a crowd that will consistently go there.
