Sometimes having too many choices can be overwhelming.

in #life7 years ago

There are a few things that I'm in the market for right now.

New wallet.

New pillow.

Sheets and mattress pad.

New keyboard.

One thing that I need more than anything else though is a new office chair.

My old office chair was purchased at Best Buy many years ago. It lasted probably about eight years before breaking apart. It was only maybe $80 and made from bonded leather. I probably sat in that chair for about ten hours a day every single day for eight years.

As you might imagine, the chairs from Best Buy are no longer $80. The reviews on most of the chairs nowadays talk about them lasting for about a year also before they break apart. That's not even close to eight years.

So I figured on the way home from work today I would stop in my local Staples and grab a chair. They're having a sale right now and most of the chairs are about 50% off.

"I'll just grab one that costs $100 or less and run right out the door. The whole thing shouldn't take more than about ten minutes." I thought.

I was wrong.

Staples has about 50 chairs on display. You can sit in each one of them to get a feel for which one you like best.

Let me save you the trouble of wondering. They all suck. Well, all except for a few of them.

I had it narrowed down to five chairs. Only one of those chairs was lower than $100. You might be thinking that's the chair that I should have chosen.

The problem was that the back was pushed a little too far forward and I couldn't figure out how to change the positioning of it.

I came home to research it and discovered that Amazon.com has a whole plethora of chairs available as well. Most people seem to like their high back chair which is $110. Of course, I might not like it given that I haven't even gotten a chance to try it out yet. That's one thing I hate about Amazon.com

Buying sight unseen.

Staple's sale will probably be over tomorrow so the 50% deal will be gone. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and pull the trigger on the $100 chair that was slightly uncomfortable because it leans forward too much on my back. Probably not. The non sale price is $179.99. Big difference.

So you can see that it's a conundrum. Of course this happens with pretty much every product on the market. Sometimes I wish there were only three chairs to choose from. Three wallets. Three pizzas.

Sometimes when there are just so many choices out there it's hard to choose anything at all.

Sort:

Buy it and if you change your mind or find another, return it. One of the best chairs I ever had came off of Craig's List. The chair was one of those ergonomic delights that a rich man couldn't afford. $100 later and it was mine. He had moved on to another "kind" of a chair.

Tip!

Well I'm known for being slow to pull the trigger. Also there was a $350 chair that I just sort of fell in love with there. It is more expensive, and way more than I wanted to spend, but I really want to find a way to get it.

Coupons?

Additionally I found a chair that we had in the back room. It kind of looks like crap because it's made for a tiny person, but I adjusted it and found out that a larger person like myself can actually fit in it. Also, it had a ton of little adjustment knobs and levers on it which is strange, because you don't often find that many adjustments on a cheap chair.....so I looked at the brand and found that it's not actually a cheap chair even though it looks cheap. I think I'm going to try using it for a while even though it's just a mid back nylon chair.

And in the meantime, stack some cash for that $350 chair. :)

it's really hard to buy or decide especially if your heart's not on it. sale is actually an attraction when shopping but doesnt really give you the best find sometimes. maybe another trip to other stores will help? 😊

That's possible.

The last computer chair I bought (I used it at my sewing table), it took me five years to figure out the height could be adjusted lol. I feel like such an idiot not realizing this. Made my life so much better the moment I realized I could make the chair go up and down. It's a pain in the butt to adjust though which is why I never realized it had the option. It really is important to find the right chair when you will use it a lot. My favorite chair helps prevent back pain. I hope you find the perfect one for you.

It's such a pain in the butt looking through them all.

Completely relatable. While it is indeed very useful to have so many choices to choose from, sometimes you end up making the wrong choice and then curse the fact that there were so many choices in the first place. Haha!

That's the truth.

That's look like article 🙂. May god success you

Thanks.

Thank your share awesome chair history..........thanks a lot for good story.

Definitely.

Choices can always spoil us. While this is not about a purchasing decision, having them unreads books in double digits on my shelf makes me hard to figure out which one to pick out next for reading.

A chair is almost as important as shoes or boots. It has to be a good fit. $300 for the right one would be a better deal than $50 for the wrong one. I suggest you not be in a hurry.

A chair is a very important issue. Because you spend about ten hours a day on a chair. You should use the chair that is most comfortable and healthier
