"Sick trick slick, but can you weave the pins?"
"Pins?"
Slick rolled up his left sleeve, revealing an ace of spades neatly tucked underneath his handcuff. It was almost time to drop off the brick.
Brick took the USB stick and handed it to muscle, who was already in position to make the switch.
"Kill the lights"
Slick flicked the switch. His comrades were both absurdly unreal and seemingly intangible until the green light on the flash drive reassured himself of the voices. He reminded himself of the day his soul was shattered into threes; it felt as if each part of himself was stronger when each voice was defined by a substantially concrete part of his very personality.
"Talking to yourself again, James?" said the nurse.
"Yeah, my friends just wanted me to drop something off."
The nurse lifted her slender hand from the clipboard to brush away the hair dangling from her shoulder.
"Well then, James. I must remind you that you are in fact alone."
"Do you know what day it is?"
"James, I'm the one who's supposed to be asking that!" said the nurse with furrowed brows.
"Today is the day I get to see the doctor, right?"
The room was cold, sterile and empty except for a single USB drive on the rusted counter and a beaten up laptop detached from its dock.
"At least they let us use computer; assessment begins at 03:30-- be ready."
