Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial in Taiwan

in #life5 years ago (edited)

Chiang Kai-Shek was the leader of the Republic of China which succeeded the Qing dynasty. It was his party that fought the communists but eventually lost the war with them and retreated to Taiwan.

Due to the communists not having a navy (and being affected by famine), they were not able to stop the Republic of China from establishing its own state on the island of Taiwan even though the communists seized control of the mainland.

There is a memorial of him in Taipei. Although many people of Taiwan are not fond of him because his power over Taiwan wasn't anything like it is today with freedom of speech and all that, his son is the one who liberated this place and helped make it into what it is today.

I went with my old friend and his sister on a free tour and this one was of the stops. It was super hot!

This is the entrance to the memorial that contains a statue of Chiang Kai-Shek inside.

The symbol of the nationalist party is displayed on the ceiling.

This was a fun day.

The memorial and statue look very nice. I hope that Taiwan can maintain their relative independence from the mainland and not have to deal with what Hong Kong is going through now.

Yes, Taiwan is a really special place. The mainland constantly threatens them and Taiwan has lost a lot of support internationally.
