How to learn to be happy?

March 20 is the International Day of Happiness. The concept of human happiness is studied by
philosophers, psychologists, theologians, physiologists - all sciences explain this feeling in their own way, but they agree in one thing - to learn how to be happy is quite real.

Research groups of scientists at Harvard and California universities believe that happiness is a virus that lives by all the laws of an infectious disease. According to them, if friendly and smiling people are around the person, this attitude is transferred to him. In particular, a person's chance of becoming happy increases by 25% if his best friend is happy.

"The more often we communicate with people happy with life, the higher our chances, if not for happiness, then at least for a positive mood."

But physiologists believe that happiness depends on hormones - endorphin, serotonin and dopamine. Serotonin eliminates depression, improves mental abilities, is useful for internal organs, it establishes the work of the gastrointestinal tract. But serotonin works in close conjunction with dopamine, the pleasure hormone, and with GABA, responsible for the process of relaxation.

The lack of even one of these substances affects the mood, depriving a person of happiness. To prevent this from happening, small adjustments can be made to the diet by increasing the doses of certain products:

Serotonin is found in eggs, low-fat cheeses, poultry, avocados.
Dopamine is found in fruits and vegetables with vitamin C.
GABA - is found in eggs, dark green vegetables, seeds, nuts, potatoes and bananas.

How to learn to be happy?

Do not envy or compare yourself with others. It is very important to learn to be content with what you already have, appreciate it and get pleasure from it, without ceasing to strive for more. Other people's victories and vital benefits should not cause anger and irritation, but should motivate and inspire. The aspiration to keep up with others is one of the main enemies of happiness.

Do not stop and constantly set new goals, even if they are global, for example, to build a house or visit an exotic country. Remember that becoming a doctor, raising a child or boiling a soup is all the goals.

Do not regret anything. If something has already happened, then this can not be changed. To think about what could be changed in the past is absolutely useless, it is better to concentrate on what can be done in the present and the future.

Make decisions and be responsible for them. Nobody except you knows what is best for you. Of course, advice is sometimes worth listening, but try on your life only for yourself.

Learn to relax, because rest and pleasure are an important part of really happy people. Do not sacrifice rest for work or money. Try to organize regular holidays with a rich program, do not forget about the daily rest, which includes not only sleep and leisure, but also banal "doing nothing".

Learn to forgive and forget your grievances. After all, to keep negative emotions in yourself is the same as drinking poison, but to think that it will poison someone else.

Go in for sports, fitness, regularly do gymnastics or at least just walk a lot. It is proved that during exercise, the brain absorbs more oxygen, and the body produces "hormones of joy" (dopamine, serotonin), which increase the mood for at least 4 hours.

Take care of health, because any disease is a breakdown, and it is much easier to prevent it than to waste energy, time and money for treatment.

Eat right, try to learn to avoid harmful foods, such as fast food, but at the same time enjoy the food. Yet no diet has made a person happy, but a delicious dinner may improve your mood.

Surround yourself with a positive - positive books, movies, beautiful things, such as flowers, photos or dishes, listen to good fun music.

To be happy we have to change our negative mind. Thre are positive and negative side in every things. We have to bring positive mind in every thoughts excluding negative side.

Awesome, you gave the whole scientific aspect to the happiness and i will not go deep into the scientific aspects but in my opinion happiness comes from our environment means if you keep your environment good then automatically our mood gets refresh and joyful for example, people when feel boredom they listen music or do some activities and the music creates an environment in your mind which gives happiness, so try to change environment means if you feel negativity then try to change your environment and try to move somewhere else for some time because that will change your mood. Music is my key to happiness.. Whenever I am down,music comes as a specialist to me. Also,listining to good music makes one mentally fit,I am a psychology student so from my studies also I can conclude , music makes your brain active .. So my key to happiness is music :-)

Hello @keistinaljfom, thanks for sharing the thorough advice. There are many individuals who are happy inspite of their circumstances. This broght me to believe that happiness essentially requires nothing to be reached, and we are preventing by believing it is linked to something. Once we let go of this belief we can simply feel happy.
