One step at a time

in #life3 years ago

I never had a secret wish to see the Scottish Highlands, but my son did. So here we are, for he's at an age when I have to accompany him on his journey. I guess this is not exactly what he had in mind, but this is as high a land he'll get to see for now.

The place is Arthur's Seat, in Edinburgh, and it seems to be the rule of the land that you must climb the hill if you're a tourist. How do you do that when you're not quite in shape? One step at a time. Just as you follow your path in life.
Sometimes the path is a leisurely stroll, sometimes it's a steep climb, full of tricky rocks. When you first start on the road, you wonder will I make it to the top?.
It's not the first time I doubted it, but somehow I made it. Both in life and on a more adventurous holiday. I remember climbing the stairs to the top of the lighthouse in Genoa, and that was no picnic either.

When the road is rough you cannot help but envy those strolling down the parh in the valley. They're having it easy. But you don't know their story and how many other rocky paths they had to climb.
Some may ask why did you have to climb to the top of the hill? Because staying at the foot of the hill and wondering won't get you anywhere!

I'd like to say the road back down was a piece of cake, but it was rather scary. You need to be wise and know when to ask for help. Luckily, my kids were there to lend a hand so I made it in one piece.
There is no greater pleasure than to look back to the treacherous path and say I did it.
You either give it your best or slowly wither at the foot of the hill.
