The Importance of Forgiveness

in #life6 years ago (edited)

I have read many blogs discussing the issue of whenever you should forgive or not, this subject has been widely discussed. I believe that people SHOULD forgive usually. However, not to forgive really fast all the time.

Forgiveness helps you to feel better.

Basically, when you forgive someone you think that it will make just the other side feel better. However, you don't know that it will help you a lot to feel way better as well. When forgiving, you simply 'trick' your brain to stop being mad on the other side which disappointed you or made you become angry. It is not so easy because the process of forgiveness means to stop being angry and to respect/feel happy with the other side.

For example, someone you know talked to you not nicely and made you upset with him/her. That way you will feel like you will never forgive that person who hurt you. But if you make that "change" and decide to forgive the other side then you will feel way better because you know that you did the right thing.

Forgiveness is must in order to build a good connection

When forgiving someone you and that person will have a better connection between each other because forgiveness helps to understand the mistake of the other side.

Let's take for couples, for example. Couples always fight each other but only those who know how to forgive the other side will be able to build a better communication and a stronger relationship.

Why should you not forgive too fast?

Forgiving too fast sometimes can be the opposite of building because the other side won't have enough time to think of his/her mistake. That way the whole situation will happen again and again. You should remember not to forgive too fast and to show the other side that what it did hurt you.

In conclusion,

I strongly believe that forgiving people is a must do thing, it helps to understand the other side and fix bad behaviors of people. On the other hand, you should not forgive too fast because letting the wrong side think about its mistake in behavior is a good thing.

Forgiveness is divine. This is one of the nice posts I stopped by. We should not be rigid. We should be flexible and forgive as early as possible if any unwanted situation happens with anyone.

Thank you so much for your awesome support, @dindar!

One thing for sure is that it is not easy to forgive. Lets not trivialize that. In deed, it is easier said than done.

But one question which i have always pondered on, regarding this question of forgiveness, is:

  1. If a person who has wronged me does not ask for my forgiveness, what is the point in me forgiving them?
  2. And if i tell myself that i have forgiven them yet they have not asked for it, is not my 'forgiveness' meaningless?
  3. is it possible that someone can refuse your forgiveness? Does it make it less meaningful?

Either way, i appreciate the value of forgiveness, and Mahatma Gandhi put it all so well.

The weak can never forgive, forgiveness is the attribute of the strong

Hi, @mirrors, let me answer your questions:

  1. The point in you forgiving him is that it helps YOU. In the case you are describing it will only help you to feel better with that person.

  2. Nope, it just means that you gave that person another opportunity and you forgot about the bad situation which happened to you with him/her.

  3. I think that if a person did something which hurt you, then refusing your forgiveness is impossible.

Thanks for the interest and for the awesome quote you gave! :)

Thanks for your response, @lazariko12. Forgiveness is a very sensitive issue, but it is one ideal we all do well to aspire toward.

I think forgiving is hard but it's a good way to live your life better, forgiving means let the things go and do no more bother your mind and thats good, we all deserve peace of mind and if we not forgive we can not have it.

I fully agree with you, @noemilunstorta. Well said!

As a Teacher your advice and post is very useful. Especially not to forgive very fast . Thank you .

Thank you so much for reading my post, @haneficag. I'm glad you liked it ;)

I feel that forgiveness is tough. Yes, especially when we are hurt by the people we deeply love, trust and have given our love and commitment to.

Nonetheless, we save ourselves more stress and pain and further hurt, when we simply let go and embrace our peace of mind.

Thank you for sharing this @lazariko12

Thanks for your meaningful comment, @limitlessfash!

Regards. Thank you too for putting up great content.

Great! I agree to that. And according to my faith I can say that this is so important. It is some cases not easy but to have the will to forgive the person one day is a good starting point.

Yeah! Thank you for commenting, @modernpastor. You are awesome!

I feel honored thanks for those kind words. In my eyes you are an awesome Steemian. :)

Yes bro, you feel better each time you forgive.

That's correct :)

Affetmek insana her zaman huzur.Biz Türklerde bir söz vardır."Affetmek büyüklüğün şanındandır."

Forgiveness is needed, never go to sleep being mad at someone you love. You never know what will come tomorrow! Always be thankful!

I agree we must forgive others to be forgiven by God. … 25Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are members of one another. 26“Be angry, yet do not sin.” Do not let the sun set upon your anger, 27and do not give the devil a foothold.…◄ Ephesians 4:26 ► So when we deal with our anger forgiveness must take place right after, however, I think one must take the time to rebuild the relationship if it deans possible, some relationships are no worth keeping in order to preserve one's sanity.
