The flag of the United States of America - known in that country as the Stars and Stripes, Old Glory and the Star-Spangled Banner - consists of thirteen horizontal stripes of equal size, seven red and six alternating white stripes, and a blue rectangle in the sector of the upper left canton with fifty white five-pointed stars. The bars represent the thirteen original Colonies that became independent of the United Kingdom and the stars, to the fifty states that form the Union. It presents a great similarity with the flag of the British East India Company, on which it was possibly inspired. 
According to what is described in articles 31 and 32 of the Constitution, it has a cross in the center that extends towards the extremities and divides the flag into four rectangles: those above are blue (on the side of the flagpole) and red; and those below are red (on the side of the pole) and blue. In the center of the cross there is the coat of arms of the Dominican Republic.
