RE: You don't drink alcohol? That's un-Australian!

in #life6 years ago

Thanks for sharing, its hard to admit when we have a problem out loud.
I too loved to drink and looked forward to Friday nights to let my hair down.
I dont know if it was age related or my liver, but my body simply wouldnt tolerate alcohol anymore. I found I could only tolerate one drink during the day buf if I had one or more in the evening it would keep me awake, I would get indigestion and the sweats during the night! So it took awhile for the penny to drop but I realised that it was much simpler just to say no to prevent the unpleasant side effects.
Socially my decision didnt go unnoticed though!
That was over 4 years ago and initially I missed the fun times/ lack of inhibition but now I am grateful and I am sure my body appreciates it.
Thanks again for having the courage to share.

Thanks @lovinglife I like your comment "socially it didn't go unnoticed". Its certainly considered abnormal to be a teetotaler in Australia.

I'd forgotten about the lack of sleep as well. I'd essentially pass out but then wake up at 3am or so and be unable to sleep anymore. I'm sure that had an impact on my mental health as well.
