A tour and facts about Bill Gates' $125 million residence (pictures)

in #life7 years ago (edited)

With a net worth of $87 billion, Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates is the richest man in America. The name of his home in this post is "Xandu 2.0" and it is located in King County, Washington State. The home is 66,000 square feet, cost him $63 million and took 7 years to build. He purchased the lot in 1988 for $2 million and now it is said to be worth $124.99 million with everything included on the land.

Here is a picture of the home and property being constructed:

And here is what it looks like now:

Now lets take a look at the details...

It took half a million board feet of lumbar to complete the project.

When guests arrive, they're given a pin that interacts with sensors located all over the house. Guests enter their temperature and lighting preferences so that the settings change as they move throughout the home. Speakers hidden behind wallpaper allow music to follow you from room to room. If you think this is over-the-top then keep reading...

Xanadu 2.0 is an "earth-sheltered" house, meaning that it's built into its surroundings to regulate temperature more efficiently. Mr. Gates really needs to keep that electric bill down to keep it affordable, right?

Situated around the house are $80,000 worth of computer screens. Anyone can make the screens display their favorite paintings or photographs, which are stored on devices worth $150,000. Why? Because why not.. :)

The pool has its own underwater music system so if you are swimming laps you can play your favorite tunes.

He also has a trampoline room with a 20ft high ceiling. I'm sure this is what Mr. Gates spends most of his day doing.. lol

The 2,300-square-foot hall could seat up to 150 people for a dinner party, or 200 people standing up at a cocktail event. I guess this could be useful for events or something, but I personally would not want that many people at my house haha.

The residence also has 24 bathrooms (10 are full baths) and 6 kitchens so there is no way you can go hungry while staying with Mr. Gates.

This is one of the more interesting facts about his home.. "The 2,100-square-foot library has a dome roof and two secret bookcases, including one that reveals a hidden bar. On the ceiling you'll find a quote from "The Great Gatsby" that reads: "He had come a long way to this blue lawn, and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it.
The library is also home to the Codex Leicester, a 16th-century Leonardo da Vinci manuscript that Gates bought at auction for $30.8 million in 1994."
I'm willing to bet that there is a lot uncovered history in this wing of the house.

This is probably where I would spend most of my time at the house. Look how comfortable the seats look! The theater sits up to 20 people..

His garage can fit up 23 cars although I am unsure of what all of them are. He owns the 1988 Porsche 959 Coupe which was once billed as the fastest street–legal production car in the world; a customized Porsche 911 Carrera, one of the fastest cars in the world; and the Porsche 930, purchased during his early days at Microsoft. All the 3 cars have luxurious deluxe interiors.

The sand on his beach is imported from the Caribbean.

Would you like to go take a tour of Bill Gates' residence? It is possible for a price.. A Microsoft employee once paid $35,000 to tour it.. Nice employee benefits, right?
