Last weekend in our country and in particular in St. Petersburg celebrated the day of The Navy. On the eve of the holiday we visited the main promenade of our city to see the preparation for this event.
This day in St. Petersburg is a great event. This is a holiday for all the military who have linked their lives with the sea. It is noted by soldiers and officers , veterans of naval troops, people related to the construction of warships.
The Russian Navy has a long history. Its Foundation was laid back in 1669, when the first warship was built. It was a sailing ship "eagle ". At that time, he guarded merchant ships in the Caspian sea.
The tradition to build the entire fleet and give a simultaneous volley of all guns was established by Peter the Great in 1714 after the victory for the access to the Baltic sea.
Already in modern history was established an exact date. This holiday takes place on the last Sunday of July. The main naval parade in our city is traditionally hosted by the President of the country.
In advance for a few days in the waters of the Neva go warships that will take part in the parade. They're anchored on the fairway. During our walk we could observe anti-submarine and landing ships, corvettes and frigates of the new generation, a large submarine .
This is a holiday not only for sailors , but also for their families, relatives and friends. For All those who are waiting for them from the distant campaigns.
Of course the largest ships of the ocean zone can not enter the waters of the Neva because of its size. They are paraded along the port fortress Kronstadt. It is a few kilometers from St. Petersburg. But the main celebration takes place in the Central part of the city. This holiday ends as usual with a flight of naval aviation over the Neva river and a festive salute.

Thank you for Your attention and Your visit. I appreciate Your feedback and comments.
Very cool pictures. In San Francisco, we have Fleet Week. Lots of sailors on leave in city and lots of ships come in under the Golden Gate bridge. The Navy Blue Angels always perform. They are a precision flying group. Sounds very similar, my friend @madlenflox
@steven-patrick, Thanks for watching :). I think that holding festive events has a lot in common.
Great photographs @madlenfox. I love the top one with the flags framing the right hand side of the picture. 😊
@gillianpearce, So decorated one of the bridges across the Neva. There was a light breeze. We decided to walk to the other side of the river. On the other side was the best the review these military ships :)
This is very rich post and great visual photos!
Thank You @adam-aj
Looks like a cool event to experience!
It really looked very impressive. It is interesting to see these warships that came to the parade. Thanks @jpphotography :)
