RE: Is It Evil To Join The Military?

in #life9 years ago

I am a Royal Naval veteran and find out from talking to US troops that the first thing a US soldier, sailor or airman learns is that the US military does not give two shits about you at all. This is not true at all in other militaries I have found, you are told that the military is your family now and will stand by you even through the gates of hell and beyond. And they do.

Talking to the US grunts, pogs and gobs we find that your training is not up to much compared to ours, this is a great shame as the US fighting man is just as good as any other military around the globe, its a great pity that your top brass are batshit crazy. Stand easy, smoke em if you have em.

Sort:

Certainly the case in some units, but not in all. Politics are pushing out people who think outside of the box and look for creative solutions to problems, so things are getting worse.

Naturally result when the population elects a president that hates the idea of the military just as much as some in here (though I'm guessing for different reasons). Politicians and yes-men get put in the chain of command and anyone with a spine is pressed out or resigns.

The Marine Corps has a pretty tight brotherhood, and the training is a bit better than other services as well... to be fair, its also the smallest service by a very wide margin.

You can watch any combat footage and tell what branch the unit is in based on just listening to the rate of fire and communications between servicemen. Thats a direct result of training. Gets harder when you're talking about specialized areas of other services, such as Army paratroopers & rangers, etc.

Its the same with our Marines, my main point is not the training itself but the attitudes of your top brass, what are they like?
