I help you!

Do you sometimes feel inflamed and have intestinal discomfort such as noises, cramps or gas in your gut? These annoying sensations are very frequent in people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome .
The excess of gases causes the appearance of a symptomatology characterized by burps, cramps and intestinal noises, windiness, abdominal swelling (which in many cases forces to loosen the clothes) and often also pain.

If you suffer from these symptoms, it is best that you go to the doctor to give you a diagnosis and appropriate guidelines. If after the consultation you confirm that your symptoms correspond to an excess of intestinal gas , you can begin to take some measures that will help you in your daily life.

WHY ARE EXCESS INTESTINAL GASES PRODUCED?

Do you know where the gas we have in the intestine comes from? Well, it has two main origins:

• On the one hand, there is the air that we have in our stomach , which comes from the air we swallow when eating, drinking, talking, smoking, chewing gum, etc. Of this stomach gas, most are expelled through belching and only a very small part passes into the intestine.

• And, on the other hand, there is the intestinal gas , which is produced from the fermentation of food by the intestinal microbiota , and which, with greater or lesser ease, we end up eliminating from the organism in the form of ventosities (sometimes malodorous, others not) through the year.
Gases have all intestinal , is normal, but when they occur in excess is when we really notice and say "I have intestinal gas." There are many factors that can favor the excessive formation of intestinal gases, among them, inadequate dietary habits , eating too quickly, talking too much while eating, or not doing good digestion.
Sometimes, the excessive consumption of soft drinks of some vegetable foods can cause us to produce more gases (vegetarians).
In short, food is one of the most important causes of excess gas.
Taking some foods or others can make you feel better or worse about this discomfort.
Along with other symptoms such as constipation or diarrhea, gas is one of the most frequent complaints in people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome .

Interestingly, constipation and gas are directly related. The constipation can favor the fermentation of the food when they should have already been evacuated and in some occasions the problem is an altered intestinal microbiota, which favor the fermentation of the carbohydrates and the bad digestions ...

WHAT DO WE DO TO CONTROL INTESTINAL GAS?

Belching and abdominal bloating, although they are annoying, are not a serious illness, but they are very uncomfortable symptoms. The fundamental thing to be able to improve the excess of intestinal gases (meteorism or flatulence) and the inconveniences that are derived, is to change your eating habits for others more suitable. In this way you can better digest those foods that harm you and improve your intestinal transit.
Write down these feeding guidelines that will help you improve the gases:

  • Dinner less abundant and especially early. Do not go to sleep right after dinner, let it go at least 3-4 hours. At night the intestine slows down so it is easier for gases to be produced.

  • Reduce food with saturated fat. Remove processed foods from your food, fried and battered.

  • Reduces the consumption of legumes (chickpeas, lentils, beans, beans, peas, soy ...), cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, red cabbage or cabbage), as they produce many gases.

  • Avoid the spicy.

  • Reduces the consumption of milk and dairy products, chocolate and eggs.

  • Eliminate from your diet drinks with gas and sweetened and sweetened soft drinks (light).

  • Limit consumption of chocolate, tea and coffee.

  • Reduces the consumption of packaged fruit juices, rich in fructose and sorbitol (sugars).

  • Avoid sucking candies, chewing gum and smoking (they favor swallowing air).

  • Pass to the soft infusions: mint, mint, chamomile with star anise, which are carminative.

  • Carrots and apples are some of the foods that will help you avoid gas.

  • Important! Drink plenty of water, at least 1.5 liters a day.
Follow these tips, but, above all, always remember to consult a specialist who will advise you before starting any diet. And if you want to read more tips, click on our article " Gases: how to improve this discomfort" for more information.
