So 110 girls were abducted in Dapchi by yet unknown assailants with absolutely no resistance from security forces. The girls were shipped away unchallenged on Nigerian roads while other highways are littered with unneeded check points. This abduction reflects poorly on the quality of thinking that goes into our security and defense planning in Nigeria.
Chibok experience with unprecedented use of young women as suicide bombers that follows are still fresh in our memories. What advanced qualification do we require to recognize that gatherings of womenfolk in BH’s area of operation are potential abduction targets?
The bulk of our security resources are deployed to guard a privileged few while luck, faith, sympathy and relief materials are reserved for the expendable majority. One supercilious jerk even went and stocked up plenty of coffins for the people he was elected to govern.
In this country we love to wait and watch till avoidable tragedy strikes. Then we will slide into our ooh aah eeh mode. Just in time for the trolling cliques of interloping gangsters to seize the situation for aggressive money making through committees and useless interest groups.
