What is most interesting, living in Ukraine, many seek to go abroad to see the overseas wonders. But I am not whimsical, at home its really not a lot of cities have seen, and that Hawtin was one of them.
This city is called exactly "Want" and "Desire" -two syllables of the name, two worlds-Christianity and Muslims. The history of this city and to this day is filled with rumors and legends about him. Centuries here was erected the temples and churches, then built mosques and so on.
In different years in Khotyn lived poles, Turks, or rather the soldiers, and Christian Cossacks, hetmans. There was even talk that in a certain castle of the city was the most famous bath, even a harem of thirty girls there were. I do not know it, but it is possible.
The city of course is beautiful and scenic, but I would like to see the fortress, the more that the story itself pushes you to look at these places.
Khotyn fortress was built during the reign of Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavovich, was involved in the construction of the Eastern Slavs.
The middle of the eighteenth century, when the rules Galitsky, strengthening of the fortress were rebuilt, the wood was replaced by stone. On the left side of the fortress had five gates, and the right side of the river Dniester. Around as expected, many castles had moats and ramparts, this is to ensure that the enemy was harder to get inside. Later, instead of the shafts and the walls appeared and the area with the buildings became larger. The courtyard of the fortress was divided into two parts, one was carried out the command, and the second was garrison.
Most interesting is that on the walls of the fortress there are still patterns of Wisdom and symbols of the Holy mountain, which was applied to Christians in the construction of the building. It would be interesting to see them. For every Christian in those days, these patterns were sacred, even the Turks are unable to remove them,would just take down the wall.
And on one of the walls of the fortress there is a stain that appeared from girl's tears. Supposedly these walls were bricked up alive by the man and the young girl died, so she left a reminder of himself. The popular myth that gives the fortress more mystery, in fact it's just the traces of the varnish.
There is another legend: under water in the river buried the real chest with dishes of gold and weapons, treasures, Khotyn battle. Legends and myths it sounds nice, but in fact, in 1890, not far from Khotyn fortress was indeed found a hoard of coins of different countries. So myths are not groundless.
Here one can not understand all these penny was on the ground in Ukraine, and stored in St. Petersburg.
But, back to the fortress. It has survived many attacks and battles, often changed owners, was rebuilt, and strengthened, and the glory of God that has remained intact to our time. Today, this historical and architectural monument of the country.
And this fortress is very fond of the cinema, here on the territory of Khotyn castle was filmed quite a few movies, here are a few title belts: the Three Musketeers, Taras Bulba Zaporizhian Sich.

The Three Musketeers is my husband's favourite story by Dumas so I will be sure to show this to him. And that story about the little girls tears is just heartbreaking.
