Fear Of Growth

in #life7 years ago

Growth its a small word but hiding different meaning under it. It is the power of increasing in size. Every people in society or organization learn and work hard for the growth of their skills, knowledge, power, position and many more. Growth determines the success of an organizational and destruction of an organizational. Too much growth is not considered good.

In any organization, if there are more than two people, there's a chance of raising a problem. When the software doesn't work, or the customer is in a jam or something's going sideways, you can hand the problem up the chain. Growth not only brings more horsepower to the problem, but it spreads the word within the organization. And, even better, it keeps you from losing the customer. Here's the thing: at some point, organizations start training their people not to grow. They fear that staff will grow so much they will be tired of their position and seek for the promotion wanting more power.

The moment this happens is the moment you begin to give up on your customers, either give your front line the power to fix things, on the spot, or encourage them to call for help when it's needed.

A classic psychological framework for human motivation, after our material and social needs are met, humans are driven by the need for self-esteem and self-actualization. Self-esteem can be intrinsically or extrinsically motivated – some are shooting for the big promotion while others prefer the quiet accomplishment of knowing they've done their best. Either way, it demands new challenges; few people are energized by the idea of succeeding over and over again at the same rote task. Self-actualization, means fulfilling our personal potential, something we can only achieve through a lifetime of growth.

Since we spend so much of our lives at work growing our skills and knowledge both of these depend to a great extent on our careers. People with high skills and knowledge rise to the top and people with average skills and knowledge stuck at the middle on their careers. It brings discouragement in people. It effects the mentality of people in an organization. Too much growth brings fear in people. Those who grow too much in short period of time feel boredom towards their work and search for something that will exciting and challenging which helps them to grow even more. Hence it effect the organizations.
