The virtues of deep breathing and how can it be practiced ?

Hello everyone !

Today I wanted to write about abdominal breathing (slow and deep breathing), one often hears also in all that is wellbeing, yoga, meditation .... because breathing is really an indispensible and very effective tool to strengthen one's wellbeing in everyday life.

But very often most people breathe badly, they breathe more at the thoracic or even clavicular level. This was my case before, I really breathe at chest level when it is not our natural breathing. When you are born you have abdominal breathing, when you look at a newborn baby you see that he breathes with his belly and you can see that his belly inflates and deflates according to the rhythm of his breathing. But unfortunately, with our intense daily life, our diaphragm gets blocked little by little with stress, and so we have a breathing which is more and more just at the thoracic level.

Our goal will be to regain the flexibility of the diaphragm and to rehabilitate it in order to regain abdominal breathing, because among the main disadvantages of thoracic breathing, it only oxygenates the upper part of our lungs, so we will be able to have a feeling of oppression, of stress, to have a short breath, and then all our organs will be less well oxygenated.

So what are the benefits of abdominal breathing ?

Abdominal breathing allows you to sleep better, to control your pain, to concentrate better, but also to manage your stress.

Make yourself comfortable in a quiet place and place one of your hands flat on your stomach below your navel. Breathing starts from your lower abdomen. Note that in sophrology, you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

First observe the movements of the belly, which fills with air and empties naturally as you breathe. Then inhale through your nose and inflate your belly.

Exhale through your mouth, calmly and without forcing.

Feel your belly filling up with air and relaxing as it deepens.

Try to breathe as if you were blowing through an imaginary straw if you want to get rid of all the tension and toxins that are clogging up your breathing. Because opening your mouth too much makes you lose power in your breath.
