Quotes, Notes, and Women #46 - Confucius

in #life7 years ago

Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
-Confucius

Knowing what you know and what you don’t know is important.

Don’t score one goal in soccer and think you can beat Messi. Don’t read one Marcus Aurelius book and think you’re a philosopher. Don’t talk politics if all you’ve read are tweets.

You can avoid a lot of missteps if you set your boundaries based on your ignorance.

If you know you don’t have the skill to finish the report by Friday, don’t make that commitment.

If you know you don’t shoot accurately under pressure, don’t ask for the ball at the end of the game.

Knowing what you don’t know allows you to set better boundaries. Setting boundaries and enforcing them is one of the keys to success.

Know where you’re knowledgeable. Know where you’re ignorant.

Make knowledge a greater share of your life pie than ignorance.
