The smaller duck captured in this photo this morning spent many years on this lake with another gorgeous duck. Many of the residents admired this couple. Earlier this week, the larger brown duck came to the lake and now the smaller duck has chosen a new mate. It is sad to see the other duck all alone nowadays and I keep wishing that a new duck will come along to keep each other company.

Unfortunately ducks do not mate for life. Geese and swans do anywhere between the ages of 2-4 years. Ducks stay with their mates seasonally. I don't know, however, if they spend a season with no mate. I suppose it's possible. Perhaps a new duckie will appear soon. Have a purrrfect day!
Awww! I thought ducks and most other birds stay together with their mate their whole life. Hopefully a new duck will come along! And hopefully soon.
