O Ethereum é uma plataforma open-source de computação distribuída usando blockchain. Imagina que o Bitcoin é uma calculadora no blockchain enquanto o Ethereum é um smartphone onde qualquer pessoa pode escrever código pra ser executado como aplicativos de forma distribuída e um dos aplicativos pode ser uma calculadora. Ou seja, o Ethereum usa o blockchain em um nível de abstração além do que o Bitcoin usa. Por diversos motivos que posso descrever posteriormente eu acredito que o blockchain será uma revolução tão grande quanto a internet e o projeto que está mais a frente para viabilizar essa revolução é o Ethereum. Por consequência eu acredito também que o Ether, moeda do blockchain do Ethereum terá grande valor no futuro. Recentemente eu fiz minha primeira compra de Ether e escrevi esse post para descrever como fazê-lo aqui no Brasil, enquanto ainda não temos corretora vendendo por aqui. É possível que esse artigo fique obsoleto em breve, aliás eu torço por isso porque vai significar que poderemos comprar Ether diretamente de uma corretora aqui no Brasil ;-) Quero deixar claro que embora não exista corretora no Brasil, comprar Ether não é ilegal. Você pode comprar a moeda que você quiser desde que declare no seu Imposto de Renda. Eu comprei o Ether no dia 27 de março de 2017, o preço estava em torno de U$48 (quarenta e oito dólares). Hoje, dia que escrevo esse artigo, 32 dias após a compra o valor do Ether está em U$70. Desde que comecei a escrever esse artigo até hoje, quando estou finalizando, o preço subiu para U$100. Até agora foram mais de 100% de ganho em praticamente um mês. É claro que isso não significa muito, dado que o Ether é uma moeda bem nova, o Ethereum é uma promessa e todas as cryptocurrencies são extremamente voláteis e não devem ser encaradas como um investimento seguro. Mas eu acredito que o preço do Ether vai subir muitíssimo mais, podendo bater em U$1,000 (mil dólares) nos próximos 5 anos. Meu conhecimento de tecnologia me faz acreditar nisso, então montei uma estratégia de buy and hold. Vamos aprender como comprar o Ether estando no Brasil. Conforme comentei anteriormente, não existe corretora para compra direta de Ether em Reais no Brasil. Então é preciso comprar Bitcoins e converter os Bitcoins em Ether.
São basicamente 3 passos:
Criar uma carteira Ether de forma segura;
Comprar Bitcoins com Reais;
Converter os Bitcoins para Ether
Passo 1 - Criando uma carteira Ether de forma segura
A forma mais recomendada de criar uma carteira Ether é usando o site MyEtherWallet. Esse é um projeto open-source em javascript que roda inteiramente na sua máquina local sem trafegar nenhum dado para o servidor. Usar o site diretamente é seguro o suficiente porque ele usa criptografia entre o navegador e o servidor (https). Se você não é técnico, para aumentar a segurança, acesse o site, desconecte seu computador da internet, desabilitando o Wifi ou tirando o cabo de rede, faça todas as operações, depois feche o navegador por completo e depois retome a conexão com a internet. Se você entende um pouco de linha de comando e git, você pode baixar o projeto para o seu computador e rodar localmente. O código fonte está disponível em: https://github.com/kvhnuke/etherwallet
1.1 Escolha da senha
Escolha uma senha forte, ou seja, misture letras e números e caracteres especiais. Prefira senhas com mais de 16 caracteres. Uma dica é construir uma frase que misture palavras em diversos idiomas diferentes e que tenha um significado pra você.
Por exemplo: Eu nasci no dia 3 de março!
Você traduz o Eu para holandês que fica Ik
“Nasci” para inglês que fica “was born”
“No dia 3” para italiano que fica “il 3”
“Março” para alemão que fica Marz
Pronto, sua senha é: “Ik was born il 3 marz!”
Claro, use uma frase qualquer, esse foi só um exemplo.
Após definir a senha, memorize e no máximo anote em um papel. Não guarde em nenhum arquivo no seu computador.
Clique em Generate Wallet
1.2 Salve o arquivo da carteira
Salve esse arquivo em um lugar seguro. Ele não possui a sua chave privada, mas possui códigos que junto com sua senha revelam a chave privada. Se alguém tiver acesso a esse arquivo não é o fim do mundo desde que a sua senha seja muito forte.
Após clicar em Download e salvar o arquivo, clique em I understand. Continue.
1.3 Guarde a sua chave privada
Atenção: Nunca jamais tire uma captura de tela desta etapa, eu só fiz a título de exemplo.
O código que está escrito abaixo de Private Key é a sua chave privada. Vamos dizer que ela é a chave do cofre que dá acesso ao seu dinheiro. A sua chave privada precisa ser mantida em total segurança.
Não escreva sua chave privada no bloco de notas do seu computador. Não envie um e-mail para você mesmo com esse código. Não salve em um arquivo na pasta do Dropbox. Não coloque essa chave privada em nenhum arquivo digital que vá ser transmitido pela internet e guardado em cloud.
Se o seu computador estiver comprometido, por um vírus ou malware, você correrá um risco de perder o seu dinheiro.
A melhor forma de garantir segurança é criar a carteira em um computador seguro, de preferência um Mac e nessa etapa imprimir sua carteira, clicando em Print abaixo de Print Paper Wallet.
Após imprimir a carteira ou anotar com caneta num papel a sua chave privada, clique em Next: Save your Address
1.4 Acessando a sua carteira
Clique em Keystore File (UTC/JSON)
Clique em SELECT WALLET FILE… e escolha o arquivo que você tinha salvo anteriormente.
Digite a senha que foi escolhida na etapa 1 e clique em Unlock
Rolando a tela para baixo você verá os dados da sua carteira e o endereço para ser divulgado publicamente.
O endereço público da sua carteira está abaixo de Account Address e Your Address. Esse endereço você pode copiar e colar e salvar em qualquer lugar. Esse é o código que você passa para as pessoas transferirem dinheiro para você. É o equivalente a número da agência e conta corrente do seu banco.
Você está pronto para receber Ethers. Vamos para o próximo passo.
Passo 2 - Comprando Bitcoins
Esse é um passo muito fácil e bastante documentado. Eu já usei duas corretoras para comprar Bitcoins. Comecei com o Mercado Bitcoin e hoje uso o FOXBIT. Ambas são seguras e recomendadas. Na minha operação para comprar Ether eu usei a FOXBIT e fiquei bem satisfeito com todo o processo.
Não tem muito mistério. Você cria uma conta, passa os seus documentos, transfere o dinheiro em Reais para a conta bancária da corretora e quando o dinheiro estiver disponível na sua conta online você pode comprar os bitcoins.
Você precisará passar pelos seguintes passos (considerando o uso da FOXBIT):
Criar uma conta em https://foxbit.com.br/
Enviar os seus documentos para validar a conta
Aguardar até 1 dia útil para a sua conta ser aprovada
Cadastrar na FOXBIT a transferência de dinheiro que você vai fazer de depósito lá
Transferir o dinheiro da sua conta bancária para a conta da Foxbit de acordo com as instruções que a FOXBIT passar
Aguardar a transferência ser reconhecida pela FOXBIT
Fazer uma oferta de compra dos bitcoins
Na hora de fazer a oferta de compra, preste bastante atenção nos valores para não correr o risco de digitar errado e acabar perdendo dinheiro.
Outra dica é olhar como está o livro de ofertas. Na esquerda fica os valores de ofertas de compra e na direita os valores de oferta de venda. Se você submeter a compra com o menor valor de venda, vai conseguir comprar na hora mas o executor da transação será você e por consequência pagará uma taxa um pouco maior.
O ideal é você cadastrar uma oferta de compra que com o valor maior que a primeira oferta da lista de compra e um valor menor que a primeira oferta da lista de venda.
Dessa forma você não irá efetivar a compra na hora e vai aguardar alguém pegar a sua oferta de forma que a outra parte seja executora. Fora a questão da taxa você estará comprando melhor. Às vezes a diferença entre o melhor valor de compra pro melhor valor de venda é bem grande.
Depois de fazer a oferta você precisa monitorar porque rapidamente outras pessoas podem fazer uma oferta de compra melhor que a sua e você vai ficando para trás na fila.
Se isso acontecer, você pode ficar esperando até que todas as outras ofertas na sua frente sejam executadas ou cancelar a sua oferta e fazer uma nova. Dependendo de como estiver o mercado, pode ser que esperar não seja uma opção e a sua oferta comece a ficar muito pra trás. É uma briga de gato e rato que otimiza um pouco o seu ganho.
Após comprar os bitcoins você terá uma carteira (wallet) de bitcoins hospedada na FOXBIT. O próximo passo é converter isso em Ether.
Passo 3 - Trocando os Bitcoins por Ether
Agora você precisa transformar os seus Bitcoins em Ether. Esse procedimento é bastante delicado. Da mesma forma que você confiou os seu dinheiro em Reais ao FOXBIT para comprar os Bitcoins, você precisa confiar no serviço que irá usar para fazer o câmbio agora.
Essa parte me deu bastante ansiedade na primeira vez que eu fiz, mas depois eu vi que foi bem tranquilo.

No momento que eu fiz a minha primeira troca a Exchange mais recomendada foi a ShapeShift. Na ocasião ela era a primeira da lista com a melhor taxa também.
No momento que escrevo esse artigo o ShapeShift não está trocando Bitcoin por Ether, eu não sei o porquê. Sendo assim será necessário escolher outra exchange.
Um ponto de atenção aqui. Existem duas moedas com Ethereum no nome. A que você vai querer comprar é a Ethereum (apenas). Não compre a Ether Classic. A Classic é a moeda que roda em cima da primeira versão do blockchain do Ethereum que teve um bug e foi dividida em dois. A primeira versão ficou pra trás e a segunda versão que é hoje o Ether do qual estou falando.
O processo de troca é simples, a exchange vai te dar um endereço para você passar os bitcoins. Você vai passar o endereço da sua carteira para ela passar os Ethers. É o endereço público que você criou no Passo 1.
Após transferir os bitcoins ela vai começar o processamento e em algum momento você receberá os Ethers na sua carteira. Esse processamento pode demorar alguns minutos, não se desespere :)
Elas também pedirão um Endereço para Reembolso (Refund Address) que é o endereço de uma carteira bitcoin para os bitcoins serem transferidos de volta caso haja algum problema. Eu mesmo não sei que tipo de problema pode haver.
Olhando rapidamente eu usaria a AlfaCashier para a minha próxima compra. Assim que eu fizer, eu escrevo um novo artigo com o passo a passo e as capturas de tela de cada etapa.
Conclusão
Ainda não é trivial comprar Ether no Brasil, mas depois de fazer a primeira vez, fica bem fácil e rápido. Aguardamos ansiosos para uma corretora implementar essa opção por aqui.

There are basically 3 steps:
Step 1 - Creating an Ether wallet safely
The most recommended way to create an Ether wallet is by using the MyEtherWallet website. This is an open-source javascript project that runs entirely on your local machine without passing any data to the server. Using the site directly is safe enough because it uses encryption between the browser and the server (https). If you are not technical, to increase security, access the website, disconnect your computer from the Internet, disable the Wifi or remove the network cable, do all the operations, then close the browser completely and then resume the internet connection . 1.1 Choose the password
Choose a strong password, that is, mix letters and numbers and special characters. Prefer passwords longer than 16 characters. One tip is to build a sentence that mixes words in several different languages and has meaning for you.
For example: I was born on March 3rd!
You translate the I to Dutch that stays Ik
"I was born" to English that is "was born"
"On day 3" for Italian staying "il 3"
"March" to German staying Marz
Ready, your password is: "Ik was born il 3 marz!"
Of course, use any phrase, that was just an example.
After setting the password, memorize and at most write down on a paper. Do not save to any file on your computer.
Click Generate Wallet
1.2 Save the file from the wallet
Save this file in a safe place. It does not have your private key, but it has codes that together with your password reveal the private key. If anyone has access to this file it is not the end of the world as long as your password is very strong.
After clicking Download and saving the file, click I understand. Continues.
1.3 Save your private key
Caution: Never take a screenshot of this step, I just did as an example.
The code that is written below Private Key is your private key. Let's say she's the key to the safe that gives you access to your money. Your private key needs to be maintained in complete security.
Do not write your private key in your computer's notebook. Do not email yourself with this code. Do not save to a file in the Dropbox folder. Do not put this private key in any digital file that will be transmitted over the internet and saved in the cloud.
If your computer is compromised by a virus or malware, you run a risk of losing your money.
The best way to ensure security is to create your wallet on a secure computer, preferably a Mac, and then print your wallet by clicking Print under Print Paper Wallet.
After printing your wallet or penning your private key with a pen, click Next: Save your Address
1.4 Accessing your wallet
Click Keystore File (UTC / JSON)
Click SELECT WALLET FILE ... and choose the file you previously saved.
Type the password that you chose in step 1 and click Unlock
By scrolling down the screen you will see the data of your wallet and the address to be publicly disclosed.
Your wallet's public address is below Account Address and Your Address. This address you can copy and paste and save anywhere. This is the code you pass on to people to transfer money to you. This is the equivalent of your bank's current account number and agency number.
You are ready to receive Ethers. Let's go to the next step.
Step 2 - Buying Bitcoins
This is a very easy and well documented step. I've used two brokerages to buy Bitcoins. I started with Bitcoin Market and today I use FOXBIT. Both are safe and recommended. In my operation to buy Ether I used FOXBIT and I was very satisfied with the whole process.
There is not much mystery. You create an account, pass your documents, transfer the money in Reais to the broker's bank account and when the money is available in your online account you can buy the bitcoins.
You will need to go through the following steps (considering using FOXBIT):
Create an account at https://foxbit.com.br/
Submit your documents to validate your account
Please allow up to 1 business day for your account to be approved
Register on FOXBIT to transfer money that you will make deposit there
Transfer the money from your bank account to the Foxbit account according to the instructions that FOXBIT passes
Wait for the transfer to be recognized by FOXBIT
Make an offer to buy bitcoins
When making the purchase offer, pay close attention to the values so you do not risk typing wrong and end up losing money.
Another tip is to look as is the book of offers. On the left is the values of purchase offers and on the right the values of the offer to sell. If you submit the purchase with the lowest sale value, you will be able to buy on time but the executor of the transaction will be you and consequently will pay a slightly higher fee.
Ideally, you should enter a purchase offer that is greater than the first offer in the purchase list and less than the first offer in the sales list.
That way you will not make the purchase on time and will wait for someone to pick up your offer so that the other party is executing. Other than the rate issue you will be buying better. Sometimes the difference between the best value-for-money and the best-selling value is quite large.
Once you make the offer you need to monitor why other people can quickly make a better buy offer than yours and you will be lagging behind in the queue.
If this happens, you can wait until all other offers in front of you run or cancel your offer and make a new one. Depending on how the market is, waiting may not be an option and your offer starts to lag far behind. It is a cat and mouse fight that optimizes your gain a little.
After buying the bitcoins you will have a wallet of bitcoins hosted on FOXBIT. The next step is to convert this into Ether.
Step 3 - Changing the Bitcoins by Ether
Now you need to turn your Bitcoins into Ether. This procedure is quite delicate. Just as you have relied your money on Real to FOXBIT to buy Bitcoins, you need to trust the service you will use to make the exchange now.
This part gave me a lot of anxiety the first time I did, but then I saw that it was pretty quiet.

At the time I made my first exchange the most recommended Exchange was the ShapeShift. At the time she was the first on the list with the best rate too.
As I write this article ShapeShift is not trading Bitcoin for Ether, I do not know why. So it will be necessary to choose another exchange.
A point of attention here. There are two coins with Ethereum in the name. The one you will want to buy is the Ethereum (only). Do not buy the Ether Classic. Classic is the currency that runs on top of the first version of the Ethereum blockchain that had a bug and was split into two. The first version was behind and the second version that is Ether today which I'm talking about.
The exchange process is simple, the exchange will give you an address for you to pass the bitcoins. You will pass the address of your wallet for her to pass the Ethers. This is the public address you created in Step 1.
After transferring the bitcoins she will start processing and at some point you will receive the Ethers in your wallet. This processing may take a few minutes, do not despair :)
They will also ask for a Refund Address that is the address of a bitcoin wallet for the bitcoins to be transferred back in case there is a problem. I do not even know what kind of problem there might be.
