El examen visual de las muestras es el inicio del análisis del subsuelo, es la primera impresión que tiene el profesional de la geología, geotecnia o ingeniería sobre el material que compone cada una de las capas del substrato.

Las muestras deben ser manipuladas cuidadosamente, para tratar que mantengan las mismas características originales del suelo.
