I do feed my body mostly 'mainstream' food. But I avoid too many artificial additives, I take some good quality multivitamins/minerals (I've had deficiencies at times, particularly in zinc because of our copper pipes) once in a while and above all I avoid stuff that's too potent in toxins (alcohol, meds). I've been alright. :)
