3 Steps to Letting Go of Negative Emotions

Raise your hand if you find yourself occasionally getting wrapped up in things that result in feeling anger, frustration, bitterness, sorrow, panic or grief.

[raises hand]

It's only human to experience the full gamut of emotions. The frustrating part is that intrinsically we all want to be happy. I've never met a single person in my life who doesn't want that.

But it can feel at times that our emotions are in control, and getting too caught up in this cycle leads to a perpetual cycle of crazy, out of control emotions.

If you operate with awareness of the Law of Attraction (or the Law of Magnetism), it can leave you feeling powerless when you have a completely human reaction to the human world around you.

I have a life hack for you to circumvent that without merely repeating affirmations (which definitely have their place, but are much like putting a band-aid on a festering wound hoping it will disappear quickly).

The first step is to STOP

Gosh that seems a little obvious, right? I mean, why even list that as the first step when that's sort of assumed?

That's because no matter the emotion (good, bad or indifferent) the more power you give to it the more likely it is to get away from you before causing overthinking and undesirable manifestations. And when emotions get rolling down hill like a runaway train, it is so easy to forget this step.

Literally stop the negative emotion train in its steps.

Imagine a Stop sign in your head. Say to yourself, "Stop." Say it from your core with power.

This is called a pattern interrupt, and this step alone will change your life. The next steps are icing on the cake.

The next step is DROP.

Let go of the emotion or drop it in a sense. I have the perfect visual for this. Ready?

Close your eyes. Imagine and notice where this negative emotion is in your body. Then imagine taking your hand, picking it up out of your energy field. Then life your hand to the light of Spirit. Imagine the light consuming that emotion to be recycled for better use somewhere else.

Now that you have noticed it and intentionally let it go, the next step is to PIVOT.

Ask yourself, "Why did I feel this way?" Usually it is because there is a want or need you have that is not being met.

If it is an emotional need, simply close your eyes and connect with yourself and imagine you giving yourself what you need (love, attention, compassion, patience for example).

If it is a physical need, bring to mind a picture of what you need or want and feel your heart burst with joy.

If it is a spiritual need, meditate and pray.

So that's it. Stop, Drop, and Pivot.

I hope this is helpful! I know it is for me. I'm a fixed water sign (Scorpio), so basically I've had to learn how to deal with that in a productive way that still honors who I am and helps me to attract the things I do want and need into my life.

Easier said than done, though.

It takes practice :D
