I have a very similar experience to @cryptoctopus with one exception: I have literally been creating original content since the days of Friendster, around 2002 or so. Also, I used to think of myself as a visual artist (i still am) but when the recession hit, I lost everything bc my company went down tubes. I applied for every known job, even ones that I didn't think were "me". I got hired as a writer for a startup (couldn't believe it) and was an UNPAID journalist (but i loved the job so much. I got to take the photos AND write the articles.) I was hooked. I thought this was the best most perfect job for me in the world. THEN THE STARTUP WENT UNDER. I was pissed, because I had thought I would be able to turn my unpaid job into a real paying job. I was wrong. Anyway, like you, I've been doing literally years, over ten years of hard and fun work of being absurd, but learning how to be effective in communication.
Steemit is a dream that I still am not sure is real or just a fantasy.
I loved this story that you told so well.
