Whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you weaker

I don’t know who first said “whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger” but he probably didn’t experience much hardship in life, or maybe he just lived in denial as he continually failed.

Tell the athlete who rips his ACL that, “whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” The Soldier who loses a limb or the child who grew up in an abusive household. Hell, if whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger, let’s wish rape upon our sisters and hope that every young man is sexually abused.

“Whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger,” was popularized by Nietzsche. We believe it, because we want to believe it. It is a false mantra we use to get us through hard times, but it should never be used as a way of life.

We all have scars that will never heal, and we are definitely not stronger for having them. You must learn to manage these injuries, understand they are part of who you are. Identify your weaknesses and always be aware of how they may cripple you in life. The abused child must always be on the lookout to not become a victim again. The person who is bipolar must be in tune with his emotions that he doesn’t allow the everyday fluctuations to become permanent. The injured athlete must work and train twice as hard just to perform at a basic level.

If you actually lived your life by the creed “Whatever doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger” you will soon be beaten, battered and scarred for life.

Hear ya, it’s kinda crazy expression. I understand the relevancy of the battle but yes for sure it’s not always good to forget the scars in the hope that they are not repeated, nobody needs to visit this headstate over and over again for sure.

I know for sure that you are not idealizing reality) I love the realists!

gotta keep it real.

Well said.. we must not surrender but must try to face the situations boldly..

Here we should be sincere and face the issue squarely and candidly.

Exactly..

Great post and an amazing photography as always.

thank you my friend!

Интересные мысли о смысле бытия. Ели бы мы знали, кто создал нас и зачем, то наша жизнь была бы на много лучше.

А может и наоборот - меньше знаем, крепче спим)

Wow great post

thank you again!

Your welcome dear

I can see both sides of this. Truthfully, whatever doesn't kill you will affect you, and this encourages you to focus on the ways that it strengthened you.

Especially when talking about things like inner strength, that's worth a lot.

Your arguments seem to me logical, so I agree with you!

These sayings can lock our minds in certain ways of thinking that might later prove self sabotaging. I believe this saying points to some truth but kind of misses the mark. I would say struggle is a challenge to rise above.

I can fully agree with your opinion!

Indeed the expression may not describe well each hard period in the life of a human, but sometimes you can recover and become even better after some hard things. They were some events in my life which definitely made me a weaker person but as you said, I've learned to live with them...

If you have coped with the problem, then you have become wiser, even if we become weaker

actually the same applies for all the ''sayings''. Most of them created through life and have even different meanings from person to person ( just like art :P ) Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger i am quite sure it is about inner strength you develop with every experience you have in your life.

It's that easy to completely destroy ( and funny if i may add) a ''saying'' that if we take a random one hmm just like give good take good we can see in real life mostly all the time this never happens. i give someone a dollar next day they steal me. i go say to a girl she is pretty i get a slam into my face. i save a man from a thief and next time i die in alley by his gang :P

The latter option is highly undesirable. All the rest can be traced. Although it is unlikely that this will make us stronger, perhaps more nervous)

that's why in those ''sayings'' we should better look at the bright side and positive way of thinking otherwise if we use half a dose of reality we are screwed :P think of it as a way to trick the brain and give to ourself more confidence and strength but still we must have a balance cause we are not superman! Anyway i am almost a year here and i haven't checked any of your posts but now it's about time to change that with a follow! :p

Thank you so much! Yes, I also think this is my omission)

Whatever motivates you makes you smarter I believe. I agree that if all you do is looking for things that don't kill you, then there's not much room left for optimism. Life can be hard, that doesn't mean it can't also be easy and joyful. All the best for your life and projects!
