A Short Update on Our Situation

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone! I may have to take a break from posting. It would just depend on our situation.

THE NIGHT BEFORE THE STORM

•~•~•

Yesterday evening, we were still celebrating our office party. We were enjoying ourselves. We can still laugh out loud and sing to our heart's content. We can still eat in peace and delight.

But when I got home, I wondered why the household was very busy. It turned out that my parents were preparing for the tropical storm Vinta. We stored our things on boxes and put our appliances on tables in case of flooding.

It was said that before landfall, Vinta, the storm was moving at 18km/h.

THE DAY THE STORM LANDED

•~•~•

We were listening to the radio for updates. But then, the electricity was cut out. The last update that we knew was that the eye of the storm is in Bukidnon. The rain outside was not that strong so we were confident that there would be no floods.

It turned out that we were wrong. The fishpond near our house was already filled with water. We were worried but we still were hoping that the water will not reach our house.

What we did not expect is for the water to rise up rapidly. We were just chilling in our house when the bells on the chapel rung. It signifies the time to evacuate.

When we left our house, the water was still ankle-high. But after a few minutes, the water reached waist deep.

We, the evacuees, were then fetched by a truck to send us to the elementary school that serves as the evacuation center.

As of now, we are situated in a room together with 9 other families. The room we are in is clean and beautiful. You can really feel the Christmas atmosphere inside this room. Even though I find this room pretty, I just hope that we will not celebrate the Christmas here.

Reports as of now (from our neighbors who chose to stay behind) says that the waters are receding. Some of the evacuees chose to go back but we decided to stay for a night just to be sure.

That's all. Please stay safe everyone!

Love lots,
