It's been a couple weeks since my borrowed internet was interrupted, so I wanted to let you know I am still around, and only today became able to get online. My crappy phone won't let me upload pics, and using it as a hotspot is currently my only option, so no pics.
I've been up in the woods a lot more since I am unable to be online, and have been finding a lot of beautiful and delicious mushrooms: Chanterelles, Lobsters, Oysters, and Chicken of the Woods, mostly. As the season and weather changes, the species do also. Earlier this month I found a spectacular L. sulphureus, Chicken of the Woods, on a giant Hemlock snag over a meter thick. The fruiting bodies reached at least seven meters off the ground and probably massed over 100 kilos in toto.
I typically don't sell mushrooms, and cannot eat hundreds of pounds of them, so left most of it for others. I did enjoy a couple kilos, however! I took pics, but cannot upload them with this connection. I have tried several times, and must bow to reality.
As soon as I am better connected, I will upload some great pics I took of the beautiful and amazing specimen.
More soon as I can.
I wish you a great internet connection! At least it is not RC Jail, ROFLOL! I would love to see your pictures, since I love mushrooms!
More time in the woods is a reward that is of great value; enjoy the respite, and the renewing energy from that quiet!
Be Blessed!
:)
WOW How tall is that tree? Do you eat a lot of these? I would, ROFLOL! I love mushrooms, I have been thinking about buying some spore, and growing my own.
Enjoy and be blessed!
:)
The tree is dead, and the top is gone (what I was trying to show in this photo) but remains over 15-20 meters tall. I did pick and eat (and share) a few kilos with some neighbors and company from out of town (city folk). It would take a commercial purpose, or a feast of several dozens, to eat this many, and neither was availed me.
Back in the day in the Hotel Europe, a neighbor would leave a plate of mushrooms on my kitchen table at some point in the night (who locked doors in those days) and I'd awaken to a little rainbow and then trip down to Honey's where the gaslights would inevitably start marching:)
Isn't it amazing when commodity/wealth is perishable, sharing and giving become rational behaviors because even humanoids that have some capacity for thinking can readily deduce the futility of hoarding or consuming beyond their limits? Only in abstract conceptualization of money as imperishable, or humanity's present extended forever into eternity, do we observe the insanity of hoarding and ledgerizing all of creation. Even then, human greed is infinite in the abstract, and an entire universe converted into abstract wealth would not be enough to satiate the hunger born from the abyss of human greed. Death and limits of reality are blessings for empty vessels, such as the humanoid muck.
Folks trained to salivate at the sight of money will do as they're taught. 'Raise up a child in the way you would have them go, and when they are old they will be accustomed to it.' or something along those lines.
However, when we're immortal, we'll have to adapt to such circumstances by becoming accustomed to that new reality, and responsible for our every thought and act. In time, we will learn what actually matters, and how to effect it. I am sure it will take a long time, but a long time is what immortals have.
Someone did show up with a ladder and pick most of these. I hope only that they made good use of it, where I could not.
It's good to share with others (assuming they trust your judgment): maybe you could have picked a few just to share.
Not everybody knows how to recognize edible mushrooms: mistakes can be fatal!
I'm sure those photos will be enjoyable to look at :-)
It's hard to misidentify these: bright orange on top, and bright yellow beneath. Some folks don't tolerate various things, from allergies or whatever, and one should only savor the outer edge of these, because the firmer inner, older portions are bitter. The margins are sublime however, and I did share them with some folks.
One of them said they hated mushrooms, but like these cuz they were like chicken. Chicken of the Woods is well named =)
Chicken of the Woods? What an interesting name!
With careful preparation, the tender margin can be used as is chicken in recipes, as it - get ready - tastes like chicken. Also has a similar texture to tender chicken. Just avoid the bitter inner part of the conk and most folks will love it.
Good to hear you're back, @valued-customer. Message is a bit belated, but we've lost some fantastic people already from Steemit and cannot afford to lose more.
I have a quite time and bandwidth limited connection, so cannot watch videos, or download anything of significance, but I can still vote and post a bit! I managed to upload some pics of the Laetiporus sulphureus specimen I found near Hebo, OR earlier this month, but only in replies, and sadly not in the OP. We struggle on =p
Thanks!
hi @valued-customer
little bit off-topic (hope you dont mind)
I just bumped into your comment related to NOIA Network and decided to check your blog just to realize that we seem to share a number of interests :)
In particular that we both share a similar passion towards cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology :)
I will follow you closely :)
Take care, Piotr
